What We Do

Knit for Boston came out of a penchant for making scarves — too many scarves. As many knitters have probably discovered, there are only so many places we can store our completed projects and only so many family members who will accept yet another pair of socks. This program connects kindhearted crafters with local charities in need of clothing, blankets, and other knittable items. Please visit the Get Involved page to find out how you can help.

Current Call for Donations

Children’s items

In February 2010, we linked up with Quincy-based program Cradles to Crayons. C to C has made it their mission to help the more than 100,000 children who experience poverty every year in the commonwealth by supplying them with the resources they need to feel safe, warm, and valued. We posted a sweater pattern to kick off this partnership, but keep in mind C to C accepts any knitwear a child could use (think: hats, scarves, mittens, etc.). There’s no projected end date on this project, so feel free to send in your donations all year long.

Items for the Homeless

We wrapped up a campaign in February 2010 during which we collected items for our first recipient program, Friends of Boston’s Homeless. While our official February blitz has concluded, FOBH collects items all year long, so please send along hats, scarves, mittens, sweaters, socks, etc. and we’ll pass them along to FOBH (yes, even in July).

If you know of a program, family, or individual in need of knitted items, please let us know. We’d like to help.
